@roland I'm not sure anyone actually monitors @fsf for incoming messages. Might be better to e-mail them about upgrading. -

@theru @encycl Yeah, I'm wondering whether to remove #tt-rss and find another !selfhost able way to read my feeds. Maybe I'll go back to #rss-owl or some other client application. -

@manuel Good question! I agree that deployment issues are really important, especially when we want less-technically-skilled people to !selfhost on shared-hosting services. More full response later. -

@mmn One of my concerns, even though I have not personally used the Gitorious !selfhost ed software, is exactly that: would there be enough interest to keep development going. I, too, generally prefer the #GPL family of licenses. #LGPL #AGPL -

@pagsheathenman When Evan removed ads from Identica and other hosted sites, I asked him to keep them. Not because I wanted tracking and other things that often go with ads, but because I knew his corp entity needed the revenue to continue operating the service. I think you have to be firm with ad companies about what you'll allow and you have to be transparent with users abou… -

@roland @rolanddiaspora Unfortunately, JD has too many users. They use #Amazon #cloud because it'd be too expensive to host any other way. For !Diaspora, like most #federated networks, keeping a node's operating costs under control depends on distributing the hosting costs among many #podmins / admins who host or !selfhost themselves and possibly a limited number of other users. -

@mk Not necessarily counter-productive. For instance, @moshpirit's new group may be primarily in one language (Espanol?). Ultimately, I think the groups feature needs to be modified so that groups are multi-hosted instead of the present very fragile single-hosted groups feature. -

@der @bobjonkman Not just your employer's computer. I used to get catalogs of MITM appliances sent to me at work. The vendors were targeting chains of #coffee shops and eateries that offered #WiFi access. I suspect you're being MITM'd every time you use Internet at a hotel, too. -

Do not copy/paste from web sites into your terminal. Here's an example of why you should not do so: http://head4.me/33 (I know it is basic !security, but you'd be surprised how many people do this, often while following some tutorial.)
