@pagsheathenman When Evan removed ads from Identica and other hosted sites, I asked him to keep them. Not because I wanted tracking and other things that often go with ads, but because I knew his corp entity needed the revenue to continue operating the service. I think you have to be firm with ad companies about what you'll allow and you have to be transparent with users about what you're doing and why. (And there are many of us who'll gladly assist someone that wants to !selfhost instead of #beehive.)
