The next session of "!Linux for !Windows Users" on 14 May 2014 will be either "The Linux !Mint Desktop" or "Installfest". Better the Desktop, I think, rather than another gruelling installation on recalcitrent laptops.

Most WinXP users won't migrate. They'll continue to use WinXP until their computer breaks, then they'll buy a new computer with the latest !Windows OS and carry on. Some will pay for an upgrade to the latest Windows OS, because "they don't want to change" (not realizing that they DO need to learn a new OS, and it's just as difficult to switch from WinXP to Win8 as it is to !Linux).…

!Linux and !Windows take about the same amount of effort to learn for someone who's never used a computer before. And it's really no more difficult to learn Linux if you're used to Windows. But my experience is that people who need to re-learn skills acquired on another system complain about it a lot more.

    In general, due to viruses, no repositories, and lack of rights-management I wouldn't recommend !Windows to a newbie — except if you're willing to re-install frequently. ♻ @simsa0@quitter.se: @sazius In general, due 2 shell, file-organization, rights-management I wouldn't recommend Linux 2 a newbie--except you're willing to coach.
