#NOAA / #NWS warning about excessive heat in !SoCal deserts today. Temperatures approaching 100°F / 38°C. If you're here (or travelling through), stay out of the sun and drink plenty of water. Keep pets, children, elderly people indoors.

In related news, #Daddy_A and the family will be passing through my area of #SoCal sometime this Summer ... going to visit his sister-in-law. If I'm still here, I'll get to see them.

I'd have to say today is the hottest day of the year so far in #SoCal. July and August could be miserable. Just not #Mississippi miserable.

Last night’s #earthquake was felt from Pahrump and Las Vegas, #NV to Tulare County, in the #California central valley, to Manhattan Beach in #SoCal. That’s an unusually large area for an M4.0 quake, at least in #CA. (Seen by browsing the #USGS site again.)

This probably will not show up on https://earthquake.usgs.gov/ (too small), but we just had a tiny earthquake in my part of #SoCal. Approximately 2020-04-27 03:45 UTC

Virgin Trains is building a high speed rail link between !SoCal and #Las_Vegas, #NV. They plan to end it North of the Cajon Pass. That may be because of problems acquiring rights-of-way there. I just think that not extending the line to Ontario International Airport (ONT) in Ontario, #CA, is likely to doom the train to low ridership. If I'm driving from #Los_Angeles, by the tim…

Currently #listening to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPHK9AYRt8s #1982
I probably would have listened to this a few times around that time or slightly later if they'd come to #SoCal and done a few concerts ... but this is the first I've ever heard it (and will probably be the only time).

@dansup Is learning to cut his own hair. http://status.hackerposse.com/url/20769 I remember being in #Ohio. Someone locally recommended a barber, so I went there after work one day. By the next day, I was looking for someone to almost shave my head because the original barber had done such a horrible butchery on my hair. The next time my hair needed cutting, I bought clippers …

@geniusmusing When one of my brothers joined USAF, he was sent to a base back East, where there was only one other person known to be from #SoCal. The guy told everyone his home was "near Los Angeles" ... it was a small town in the Coachella Valley ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wikiCoachella_Valley ) area of far eastern #Riverside County.
By that measure, most or all of SoCal is near #Los_Angeles.

Good morning and #TZAG. Today is #Resurrection Sunday ("Easter"). He is risen!
Stayed up way too late messing around with #Lua last night, so I'm both late and tired. It is a warm, sunny day in #SoCal.

I have two nieces who are supposed to graduate from college / university this year in May / June. I wonder how their respective institutions are going to handle this. (One of them I've never met before. #WA is a long way from #SoCal.)

This kind of slow, prolonged drizzle is exactly what !SoCal needs. It won't last long enough to strengthen the trees for the coming hot and dry season.
-
I think the !SoCal AQMD restrictions on pollution have helped a lot, along with closing the steel plant in Fontana.

Oh, good. #NOAA / #NWS has cancelled most or all of the flash flood watches in #SoCal (at least #San_Bernardino and #Riverside counties).
-
Oh, wow. Looks like there are flash flood watches from the upper Mojave Desert to the Mexican border tomorrow and Wednesday. If you didn't already have a reason not to go out, you do now. !SoCal Alerts cover most of #Inyo, #Kern, #Los_Angeles, #San_Bernardino, #Orange, #Riverside, #San_Diego, #Imperial counties There's also still an areal flood advisory for most of the Santa A…

#NOAA / #NWS issuing flash flood and urban / small stream flooding warnings for #San_Bernardino, #Riverside, #Orange counties in !SoCal. Heavy rain in the Santa Ana river basin. Remember the "turn around, don't drown" slogan and follow it.

@silkevicious Good morning and #TZAG from #SoCal.
-
Small #earthquake felt here in my !SoCal hometown. Based on the approximate time, it may have been the M4.6 near Anza ( in the #Riverside County mountains ). No damage, but shelves swayed a little.

Another quarantine in #California: https://nu.federati.net/url/266425 [www latimes com]
Newcastle disease in #SoCal ... from what I hear, ag officials will call to inform people that their birds are about to be killed, then get there to find that they’ve moved their birds into hiding. Which then helps spread the disease, because some commercial and backyard chickens are infected.
