What would it take to dump the usernames of authenticated !gnusocial users in #apache logs? I see that usernames are dumped in /var/log/apache/access.log when gs is accessed via api (e.g. andstatus), while most other web services I run do not log this info. Any idea/help? !selfhost

Once I tried to help someone setup #gmail to handle their e-mail. It was confusing and I could never make it work, so I just !selfhost'ed instead. Works better.

@jaideneverett or switch to a free microblogging platform like !gnusocial and hopefully !selfhost to gain full control on how things look! :-)

@realramnit Die Dezentralisierung von !gnusocial sollte man wohl gut erklären, dass es also nicht wichtig ist, in welcher Instanz man seinen Account hat !fediverse oder dass man sogar seine eigene Instanz bauen kann !selfhost

!selfhost I've had to upgrade my #Comcast Business connection twice now because of apparent #bandwidth issues. So now I'm running #bandwidthd. http://status.hackerposse.com/url/8423 It doesn't show me using anything like the bandwidth I'm paying for. I remember--from about fifteen years ago--complaints about cable Internet service that it worked fine until you got too many people …

Anyone else here at !selfhost happen to be using Let's Encrypt? I got into the closed beta a little bit ago and managed to get it set-up without too much problem. Ended up having to do a manual install though since the auto installer doesn't support my environment too well yet (Apache on Fedora; apparently works fine on Debian/Ubuntu though). But after I got the c…

Sorry if the extended downtime of sn.jonkman.ca and s.russwurm.org caused any problems. The server experienced an involuntary upgrade of, well, everything. !SysAdmin !selfhost

Wondering if I should make a commenting system in my blog. It would be !selfhost ed too. I hope it doesn't make room for trolling!

@hikerus I trust my server. @zash trusts his server. We both !selfhost. That's about as close to end to end encryption you can get without requiring a bunch of annoying UI issues, problematic message transfer (multi-client delivery...) etc. etc.

I am !selfhost/ing at home on a cheap #nuc, costwise is competitive with #vps I think (overall power consumption of the server is ~10W and electricity is cheap here), no noise whatsoever. The only hassle was setting up the dynamic dns thing...

I've got to try out #CherryMusic: "A standalone music server written in Python intended to be an alternative to Last.fm, Spotify, Grooveshark..." It also has an #android app http://fomori.org/cherrymusic/ !selfhost

Actually I wish I had logged more of my !selfhost/ing activity. Have a look at the logs by @espionage724: https://gnusocial.no/conversation/359677#notice-359677. He really noted down everything!

perhaps this is the right time to start thinking about using https://letsencrypt.org in my !selfhost setup

So, next milestone in !selfhost (and I think this one will open many doors): #SSL Certificate in #NetbookServer so that I can sling #HTTPS

So how do I explain to the Comcast technical service idiots that while pings seem fine, TCP (I don't know about UDP) connections are breaking badly on my connection? !selfhost

Ever since getting started with !selfhost, I documented all the commands and stuff I've done, and eventually publicized it on GitHub: https://github.com/Espionage724/Linux-Stuff/blob/master/Fedora%20Server.txt
Does anyone happen to have any feedback? #servers

#RSS feed sample for the !selfhost ed blog http://kzimmermann.nerdpol.ovh/feed.rss. Not complete or auto-updating yet, but feels pretty cool
