MMN-o ✅⃠ (mmn)'s status on Saturday, 28-Mar-2015 17:14:14 EDT MMN-o ✅⃠ @windigo But you don't need #OpenWrt to get going with mesh networking. The routing protocols olsrd, batman-ng etc are all available for all platforms. #CommotionWireless, #Freifunk and #OpenMesh are good projects to get started. What I'm trying however is the IEEE standardised 802.11s mesh networking standard which the mac80211 in Linux can use. A lot less dependencies and userspace hacks required :) -
MMN-o ✅⃠ (mmn)'s status on Saturday, 28-Mar-2015 17:12:24 EDT MMN-o ✅⃠ @windigo I think the #dd-wrt project is a bit appaling. #OpenWrt in general seems much more structured and maintained. Also, dd-wrt uses non-libre tricks to get onto "bad hardware" afaik. I only use it if I can't get OpenWrt running :) -
MMN-o ✅⃠ (mmn)'s status on Saturday, 28-Mar-2015 16:59:30 EDT MMN-o ✅⃠ I've been playing with customizing #OpenWrt. It boots with preconfigured mesh (#802.11s!), anyone can link up to it, and a customized "UmeshLAN [mac-addr]" network is now published for easier administration of individual nodes. -
MMN-o ✅⃠ (mmn)'s status on Sunday, 22-Mar-2015 17:50:01 EDT MMN-o ✅⃠ #802.11s seems to be working pretty well. #OpenWRT doesn't support encryption for it out of the box - but I gues I could assume all communication transport layers are encrypted. #umesh -
MMN-o ✅⃠ (mmn)'s status on Friday, 06-Feb-2015 18:54:26 EST MMN-o ✅⃠ It was actually @mikael who introduced it to me first .)
In general I'm very happy with all my #TPlink stuff. Tends to work well with GNU/Linux and routers are often supported by #OpenWRT. -
MMN-o ✅⃠ (mmn)'s status on Thursday, 05-Feb-2015 08:15:26 EST MMN-o ✅⃠ Heh, I'm happy enough running #OpenWRT on various old routers people have ditched because they "didn't work" (either power supply failure or it just needed a factory reset). But if I ever have to buy a new router... :) -
