@gargron I am running a !gnusocial node with nightly version. If I follow accounts on #mastodon nodes after one or two days the "follow" status is lost - I don't see the posts of them. I think this problem is known. My question: Could it be solved on the #mastodon side? Is there any fix in the recent stable version? -

@thomas Ich betreibe einen !gnusocial Instanz - ich weiss über #mastodon zu wenig. Ich habe von diesem Fix nur aus der Erinnerung geschrieben. Man müsste wohl @gargron fragen. -

@patrickme !GNUsocial is another piece of software entirely that has some features that #Mastodon lacks and vice versa. -

Und mir fällt auf meiner !gnusocial Instanz wieder einmal auf: Von #Mastodon Accounts, denen ich folge, sehe ich ihre Postings nur über eine gewisse Zeit, dann kommt nichts mehr. -

#Mastodon v1.5.1 is a really small patch release that fixes a rather important regression in 1.5.0 that (to my knowledge) affected primarily GNU social accounts https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/releases/tag/v1.5.1

How well known is it amongst #Mastodon users that their privacy features don't really work outside of their own instance? Perhaps some admins know, but much of the flaming is coming from people angry that #GNUsocial doesn't follow the privacy conventions of #Mastodon. But being angry that the #GNUsocial developer(s) aren't creating the same illusion of privacy is really misdirected anger. -

I'm perfectly happy that #Mastodon exists, and if it implements #ActivityPub in a future version, more power to it. And if it drops #OStatus support, well, that's what forks (or reimplementations) like #Mastodon are for. But don't blame #GNUsocial developers for not following #Mastodon's road map for the future. -

The big thing that's prevented me from even trying #Mastodon is the lack of support for !Fedgroups. And that's not a wrongful implemenation of #OStatus; I believe #Fedgroups are implemented as a specific client behaviour, nothing to do with OStatus. -

The author's explanation of expectation of "security" or "privacy" in #Mastodon is concerning. Knowing that !OStatus provides no privacy or security at all, bolting privacy and security features onto #Mastodon isn't going to work. This is not the fault of #OStatus, nor is it a shortcoming of #GNUsocial that it doesn't implement security or privacy with #OStatus, but recognizes that constraint. -

The article attributes lots of statements to the authors of both #GNUsocial and #Mastodon, things that I've never heard either state online (nothing that reached my timeline, anyway). The whole article seems to make the difference between #GNUsocial and #Mastodon much more acrimonious than I've experienced. -

@Gargron I really think you should impose a default license to #Mastodon creations. A libre CC license supposedly. Otherwise copyright says noone is allowed to redistribute neither posts nor other media. Formality may suck but it would suck more if ysers start harassing other instances with takedown requests because they didn't understand that posting on the web means copying and distributing by nature. -

Somehow my post didn't made it to arrive in !gnusocial. After a gnusocial user pointed out it might be time for a gnusocial #hackathon I started to promote it over #mastodon. Around 20 showed interest in attending sofar. While I'm not involved into the development and was more about just helping to promote, is there some or organisational stuff for this hackathon already going… -
