Any opinions on #XMPP vs. #IRC in 2018? How viable is it at this point for #FOSS projects to just use XMPP and forgo IRC?

@hannes @mmn need some help, please! Did installed this node to learn and try to improve !gnusocial. Most of it works but I have problems to upload images. After some days searching I've installed #mod_mime_magic in my server and now I can upload images via classic interface but it keeps wrong in !qvitter Gives an error that maybe format it's not supported or file size it…

@paulfree14 @bobjonkman #matrix and !xmpp users can also join chats that are bridged into the #irc room.

I'm slowly migrating away from #Pidgin towards !Gajim as my preferred !XMPP client. But Pidgin was my #IRC client too - anyone have suggestions? I've used #XChat, and found it impossible.

Okay, so #Matrix: positives are that the #Riot client has a beauteous interface; http://status.hackerposse.com/url/13727's bridge to #Freenode offers ever-growing scrollback in #IRC rooms; possible to !selfhost a matrix server. Minuses: I haven't yet found a http://status.hackerposse.com/url/13728 bridge to #XMPP (which would greatly enhance its value to me); no concept of indi…

@ericxdu23 So identica is back? That was the first one I noticed was down a few days ago. Maybe someone should visit #pump.io on freenode #irc to inquire about the status of E14N pumps.

@grmpyoldman multi-hop bridging could become messy. With the #XMPP - #IRC bridges I've seen, every MUC to room connection requires someone has to set up a separate #bot. #Matrix seems to do many to many without individual room bots. (Improving MUC to room interface would be a great GSOC project; maybe resulting product could be a major XEP.)

I do wish the committee behind #IRCv3 would also add some compatibility with #SILC, since the latter formed because #IRC process got bogged down for years.

I'm using #spectrum2 to bridge #IRC / #XMPP now; it's better than the #ejabberd module, but still has some problems; I don't think it's expecting to actually be used for IRC....

I'm trying to find a good #xmpp → #IRC gateway.... The one that comes w/ #ejabberd seems useless—it wants a separate back-end IRC login for every front-end XMPP session under the same account....
