@dtluna Also I don't think @hannes2peer is part of the free software movement, he's just a true Marxist which happens to coincide with some !foss stuff! But not all, for example I think he prefers non-commercial licenses!

The reasoning is the same as with open hardware and proprietary CPUs/SoCs, just because they don't come with schematics or FPGA code doesn't mean we shouldn't make as much as possible open and libre.

@arunisaac I know @hannes2peer has complained lots about how sucky/difficult #LibreJS is. It's apparently hard to make it conform to the requirements (and personally I don't see the point, as the problem with JS is security - and that's not solved by just putting JS malware under a !foss license).
I prefer to just make stuff usable without javascript.

@lxoliva For this case, I'd guess anything !foss applies as non-commercial as long as the resources per se aren't exchanged for money. (donations to cover running costs are fine, charging money in exchange for services is not)

@copyme #OsmAnd~ is my primary choice and can be found in F-Droid. There is also "Maps.me" but it isn't quite as clearly !FOSS, because it has unclear license of artwork as I understand it, and whatever else they list in this thread: https://github.com/mapsme/omim/issues/85

@maiyannah Using and promoting !foss is as valuable a contribution as developing it most of the time. Especially when it means that developers get motivated to continue - and doesn't have to do extra/boring stuff like all the surrounding documentation, PR, ideas, bug testing, etc. etc! :)
And that whole "how to make money on foss" stuff is something I'll just leave alone.
