@clacke Consider if WebFinger lets you lookup URIs. This means if the URL is unavailable (domain expired etc.) data is still stored in the hive mind of the !fediverse. You wouldn't have to contact the original server, any server that had received the object would do. Wouldn't that be nice?

Yeah, GNU/FSF have never put any resources in to GNU social apart from maintaining the general !fs politics worldwide. Originally Evan had startup grants, I just put in my free time (which I barely have any left nowadays) and @diogo got the gsoc stuff. While I enjoy the !ostatus solution much more than ActivityPub maybr we should see what has been generated "outside" … -

I'm considering running a scholar/academic/research/education oriented #peertube instance, wondering how much interest there is in it on this bit of the #fediverse?
It seems very doable, but bit steep in investment cost (hardware). I think it should be doable with a running cost of ca 100-150,- per month for hosting and hardware. Assuming sponsored/donated admin-time.

@strypey There's a difference between just trying to reach outside one's social circles and doing analysis of other peoples' behaviour (from which you adapt your communication strategies to maximise profit/outreach).
The !fediverse is open by design so users themselves can find, subscribe etc. interesting content. Sharing whatever content one finds is done via links of trust. -

Yeah my point is that promoting statistics and analytics is a bad thing. Delayed posts etc. are other things that have veen discussed in the past. These "features" are not something that maintains a healthy social communication base. Of course anyone can implement this.
