@gargron Why'd anyone recommend proprietary lock-in software? What are you, some kind of digital sadist?
-
@maiyannah Mumble's awesome for multiuser (as well as one-on-one) voice chats. Confidential one-on-one VoIP is perfectly feasible with !XMPP too.
-
@mmn @gargron there might be some situations where proprietary is the only option, but otherwise I'd stick to free software. Software which is impossible to independently audit is inherently untrustworthy. Also since I have some experience of the industry, you may think the code quality of FOSS is questionable (heartbleed and co), but the code quality of proprietary stuff is /orders of magnitude/ worse.
-
@maiyannah Then !XMPP is exactly what you want. Personally I offer automagic account logins to anyone on #quitter.is and #quitter.es with an authentication module for #prosody that just piggybacks !GNUsocial's user table. So anyone on those servers can log in with their GS credentials :)

@takeshitakenji Jingle is how !XMPP does VoIP (and file transfers and other preferrably p2p stuff) yes.
-
@aqeel How does Tox solve multi-client sessions?
-
@aqeel Also, I prefer decentralised systems before distributed ones.
-
@aqeel Yeah. I think it's impossible by design.
