I am glad that Prop 16 failed. California can still do targeted admissions and hiring, they just need to use non-inborn criteria.
A little reading will tell us that these exceptions we create to advance ourselves can be turned against us or used to justify counter-exceptions. There was a sound reason we passed prop 209 in 1996.

For example, we can use family income level, patents' educational level, the average performance of the high school's graduates, or the set of known experiences someone has had.
Chosen carefully, we can benefit those in need without it being just about ancestry.
