seems like a lot of java monitoring tools require a GUI. Why is this?
-
also, it's very clear I don't know what I am doing in this regard.
-
@musicman if they’re using #Java, they’re probably going for cross-platform. It is less true than before, but even now, #Windows administrators prefer GUI tools, even when CLI / TUI tools are more functional and faster.

I guess, but I am trying to do this in CentOS:

trying to do X11 forwarding through Windows and Mac has me wanting to destroy my keyboard. WSL doesn't seem to have helped.
-
gonna try installing openbox in WSL and see what happens
-
-vv FTW
debug1: X11 forwarding requested but DISPLAY not set
-
issue isn't resolved...it's just a lead

I was just going to use my personal Linux machine but:
"The client is NOT PERMITTED TO BE INSTALLED on non-corporate asset without a security exception. Contact Security for an exception request."
I mean, I guess I could ask for an exception, but I still need to solve this at some point either Windows on Mac.
-
giving cygwin a shot because idk.
-
@musicman At least you’re reading the installer boilerplate now. Most people, including most tech people, never read all that, so they’d never know they were violating company policies by installing something.

I appear to be at runlevel 5, but still no dice
