"Racing toward 25%" Friday (tomorrow) is the day that Texasâ**s Governor allows all businesses to reopen, but only if they cap their in-house customers at 25% of capacity for their facility. So where is my county, Collin County, right now? Anticipating this â**momentousâ** day of continuing to re-open businesses in Texas, Collin County is stalled in its fight â*¦ Con… -

"Introduction to Modern Physics" is done. I won't teach the course again in the fall. I've made a new public-facing course page, complete with all lecture notes available in book form. This is a direct conversion of my Beamer LATEX slides to book format. https://people.smu.edu/ssekula/main/teaching/phys3305/ https://twitter.com/drsekula/status/1256038696920461312/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/65042 -

It was great to see @HEPfeickert today at the weekly @SMUPhysics coffee break! Any physics alums who want to join us for this virtual coffee break can reach out to me and I can you you in touch with @ClearPoetry for how to connect. -

... and this is for you, @HEPfeickert: the difference between the model prediction and the data, divided by the error on the prediction, compared to a unit Gaussian. Mmmmmmm. Thanks to @matt_bellis, I now have an unbinned maximum likelihood fit giving me the best-fit model parameters for our @SMUPhysics muon detector data. Thanks to @HEPfeickert, I am using scipy.stats to compute the chi^2 and p-value. Life is good. https://twitter.com/drsekula/status/1255268968807481347/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/65005 -

"The Virus Strikes Back" Maybe itâ**s because Texas, as a state, sent signals that it was â**okayâ** to behave like we used to. Maybe itâ**s because the President lied to the nation over, and over, and over again about the reality of COVID-19. Maybe itâ**s because people have become complacent. Maybe itâ**s because testing is improving in our county. â*¦ Continue … -

1000+ hours of muon decay data, and I've doubled the bins (time binning is now 500ns instead of 1000ns). Having a lot of fun on-the-side with this muon lifetime project. Still using a binned fit, but that might be changing soon.... Finally using scipy.stats for chi-square... https://twitter.com/drsekula/status/1254191507780898817/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/64732 -
