@mv of course labor law is different than 1st amendment law but I am not planning on taking any labor classes or conflicts of law classes. Both are interesting, but there is only so many classes I can take. -

@mv you are making my point for me. That is a federal act. Feds are equally capable of violations as states. That doesn't mean it doesn't apply. Also, for what it's worth (which may not be much), applies to executive -

@mv laws of general applicability are fine (from both state and fed). What states (or feds) cannot do is say "Marxists have to pay a police fee to assemble, KKK does not." THAT would be a violation of the 1st Amendment -

@mv and city building ordances apply to churches, mosques, etc despite the fact that a church may want to expand. -

@mv for example, if you are of a religion that requires smoking marijuana, the states or feds can arrest you when practicing, despite the 1st Amendment. -

@mv Did I share this with you before? http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incorporation_of_the_Bill_of_Rights - this is not really an arguable point. The 1st Amendment applies to states. The first amendment has restrictions against the feds as well as the states -

Also, the fact that it is on Bloomberg makes me a little sick, but being made sick is a large part of being a law student. -

@lnxwalt280 on that note, I do think the next constitutional amendment should be written in 140 char or less. -

@lnxwalt280 that inaccuracy was that the 1st amendment doesn't apply to the states. It does. It did not, however, until after the civil war. The "confusing" part is that we didnt go back and amend 1st amendment to say "btw, this now applies to the states" CC @mv -

@lnxwalt280 I know you are talking about a point that came up later in discussion, but to reiterate, the beef I had with @mv's guest had nothing to do with whether rights were infringed (they were) but about a factual inaccuracy. -

even in a car, it takes a over day to travel from Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) to Hà Nội, and it's not like Hà Nội is on the Chinese border. 5 more hours by car to get to the border. -

had there been a mix, I think I would have just been like "ok, that's the way it is" but the fact that it was so incredibly tilted toward lighter skin was shocking to me since these were people flying the *old* Vietnamese flag.
