    How long is long enough is the question. As far as I'm aware, it's *only* drug companies that complain about this, but I haven't done exhausted industry studies.

    one of the things about drugs is that often small changes are not useful, so exclusivity not a strong as in mechanical and electrical arts anyway.

    I can't say I know enough about drug standardization to comment. Working at a genetics lab at a medical school only takes you but so far.

    ignore what, software patents? I am trying to address the issue of drug patents. Software is not at all a part of the equation. Again, I think trying to solve all patents with a single system misses the mark. There are already some exceptions for medical patents.
