@navigium @jackmcbastard Hubzilla can do things like that, since it has a more elaborate privacy model than just follow or block. I see !gnusocial as being a simpler system.

Maybe someone can explain this to me. How hard would it be to make !gnusocial into separate networks where certain instances could federate among other invited instances? Something similar to the way IRC works. Is this undesirable for some reason? I just don't understand why people want only one unified network. I'm new to the community, maybe I'm missing something.

@jackmcbastard Isn't what you asking for already what !gnusocial is? I'm a bit new too... But that's what I have understood. Nodes only see other nodes they are already following, yes, one network but not necessarily all unified like you say, because it's a decentralized/distributed network. And I'm sure (I'm speculating) there is a way to make your node only visible to those you want to see you.

@bob yes, I like the simplicity of !gnusocial. From a technical standpoint I prefer #hubzilla, but the simplicity of GNU Social caters for a broader user base and makes the community more fun.
