What I've done so far with image upload, Exif GPS tag reading and #PostGIS storage: https://social.umeahackerspace.se/attachment/49097
-
Got to make the images movable, and store their new position (preferrably update the exif tag accordingly). Then eventually take the direction into account.
-
With enough images, I can start publishing geocoded pictures extremely easily and thus get some pretty neat documentation when doing !mappers stuff!

@nicolasmaia No not currently. I don't know how their backend software is licensed and haven't bothered figuring out if it's self-hostable.
Nevertheless I do this mostly because I just want a place to dump a bunch of images which might be crap and probably requires manual corrections :)
-
@nicolasmaia Yeah, I doubt I'll want to support them then. :)
-
@nicolasmaia They're welcome to harvest the pictures I publish, but I'm not gonna do the work for them if they don't want to let me put up a sandbox platform at home that I can mess about with.

My #geopic upload thing now updates the database with new geographical location and I will now see if I can make it rewrite the exif tag as well! Then I can start moving images around and easily restore by just reuploading the image archive.

Update on the #geopic thing: I chickened out and went with calling 'exiftool' instead of using python code to write the tags. So now the files themselves are updated too. Next up: some sort of authentication cookie for editing so I can let others connect and also see my horrible, horrible code.
