     private sites (non-federating) shouldn't be much of a problem, but many URLs are (still) statically stored for whatever reason.
     For federating sites - don't.

     Yeah as long as you change all the entries in the database (and make sure there's nothing caching the old entries :P) a private system can easily be migrated to a new domain.
     Imho you shouldn't have to change anything in the database, so it's an unfortunate fact that it has to be done.
