     Would you say the same for email? If @hotmail.com registers a thousand nicknames, why shouldn't @gmail.com let users register the same there?

     @roland @mmn @erkanyilmaz I think a better solution is to let the fullname (user@host) override shortnames (@user), even when the shortname is a known account to the server.

     Yes, a full WebFinger ID should be prioritised. My comment was regarding applying arbitrary centralisation restrictions on the nickname system.
