   (git itself is decentralized to the core, so I have a hard time seeing a problem with not using the proprietary service "github")

     @raniere git works outside of the eeb. Any web frontend to git is just crippling it. To merge like you describe, just send off the git patch as an email and the developer can pipe to 'git am' from the mail client.
