Kids these days will never know ...
I remember walking with my friends to the local arcade (about 4 miles). One day we got there and found a new game, Pac-Man. The next day, we went back. Frank, my Taiwanese landlord's elementary school son, was there playing it. We learned about patterns and all sorts of tips and tricks to play better because Frank had played it in Asia before he--and it--came here.

Of course, I couldn't just memorize someone else's pattern. I developed my own. But with less than $5 per week to spend, I didn't get far. Frank was a better player the first time I saw him play than I ever was. That said, I got a 5th place plaque at a local Pac-Man tournament.
