   I had an excellent idea, but I have encountered an early roadblock: "Your terminal appears to support fewer than 256 colors!"
   
   I think the fix is pretty easy though

     interestingly, I still get that message with my work around, but PuTTy says I am in 256 color mode and, more importantly, it appears to be working.

     actually, fixed three things with this setup.
     
     I should have brought my docking station from the office. Perhaps if the stay-at-home gets lifted I can go in and get it.
