I don't think we could answer that without rewinding past at least 40 years of Hollywood movies. What did the oral and written Robin Hood stories say about his goals? It's too easy to rely on what one saw in a movie and not consider what influence the movie's writers, producers, directors may have had on the interpretation of the stories presented.
