This is pretty similar to what a NorCal co-worker said about his hybrid vehicle. In order to make it viable, he had to have a charging station installed on his property (part of a massive project involving solar and wind generation, lots of on-site battery storage, a diesel powered generator, and a connection to the power grid via PG&E).
