     @mangeurdenuage @xj9 The article's take on changes that must be made ... focuses on (1) frequently updating software to current (hopefully more secure) versions and (2) shutting off or firewalling / quarantining vulnerable services such as RDP. All of your suggestions would probably help, but that's their focus.
