@kat Geometrically yes, but assuming you're using a chef's knife (as you should with such a job), the latter is fewer cuts and faster. I personally could not slice a cucumber, stack it like a huge pile of casino chips, and neatly quarter the lot in two cuts. There would be a lot of sweeping up, bandaging, etc. Cucumbers are devilish slippery chaps.
