Every time a programmer blames the interpreter for an interpreted language for their problems, God makes a kitten GOSUB without a RETURN. -

TurboPASCAL GNU social client when? -

@bob Abstracting away your problems doesn't actually remove them. It's just shifting blame and responsibility. Probably why some programmers like certain languages. -

Making overly-expensive hardware to power free software is like making Lamborginis to give out on social assistance. Unless you're giving them away for free, you're completely misunderstanding the target audience. -

If there's anything I've learned in life with programming, it's that the "easiest" languages hide the most complex and convoluted errors. -

"There are two ways to write error-free programs; only the third one works."

I can't remember where I got it from. -

The Talos power8 thing. Eh, ok, but it's ridiculously expensive. I'm not all that interested in free hardware for rich people only. -

@bob For the same price I could buy a few hundred raspberry pis or beaglebones. Maybe a thousand. -

Your preferred programming language isn't going to disappear if you don't lavish it in tongue-baths every time someone maligns it, get some self-respect. -

Man, if people spent as much time actually programming as they did arguing which language was best, we'd probably have solved ever software engineering problem in the world by now. -

Normally when I can't game I'll sit and code or write a review but I don't want to zone out doing that as I'm wont to do and miss the doorbell. -

So I'm basically sitting on my hands waiting around for a courier that will probably come the last 5min of the day. -

I hate waiting. I can't really get into doing anything because I have something arriving to the house courier to me and I am not going to be able to get to the depot if they don't deliver it to the house, its an hour out of fucking town and completely outside of any bus routes. -

I hate software that discards user configuration inputs.

Think I figured out why the redis queue isn't touching redis inappropriately. Looks like redis is listening on a tcp port even though I told it to listen on a unix socket. -

Every time I look at GNU Social API's it strikes me how much info they give that I don't want and how bad they are at giving info that I want.
It's like in the evolution of the API everyone has been working on extending it with cool features rather than making the core solid.
Same effect can be seen with the various standardization attempts. -

@verius I don't actually know this politician's affiliation, I'd have to look it up, but given the article was banging on about Merkel I'd assume they're with her lot. -

One crucial mistake that happens, I think, is to think of the GS parts of the fediverse as a microblogging service. It's not. It's a Twitter alternative. Blogging implies a one-to-many publishing but the reality is that the value of the fediverse is in the interaction between people. It's inevitable due to the nature of the fediverse that nodes won't have a full vie… -
