@hobbsc While I'm certainly one to avoid using javascript myself, there are certain tasks that you cannot really accomplish without it in the current web ecosystem, without relying on browser-dependant features. -

@archaeme Although more work its probably best to use our own. Google's gets used for surveillance. -

@archaeme If it doesn't have external dependencies that that would be a candidate for using for 2fa without a plugin. -

I wonder how many people dream of the stars to escape from the pettiness of this earth. -

Sounds like the Warhammer 40k Eternal Crusade developers have decided to help their sales a bit on Steam by reporting the highest voted (around 1000) negative review to Valve to get it removed from the store page while they're having a sale.
Also seems like the idea that they might cause the review author to lose their account is a distant afterthought for them. -

I'm not adding any more external dependancies to postActiv. It has a mountain of technical debt already. -

@purplehippo @verius Specifically, Vivaldi is Chromium with a proprietary mail addon glommed on which nobody asked for. -

@takeshitakenji Forcing unicode locally doesn't stop malfunctioning instances from sending non-UTF encoded messages, but its a good start to preventing the problem. -

@verius But how are they going to propogate the extortion racket that way? -
maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Saturday, 17-Dec-2016 05:40:49 EST maiyannah
@verius @andstatus That might be a good idea but IIRC there's probably a better idea than using a wiki for that, I'll look into something tomorrow (later today?) after I've properly rested. -

@archaeme Well, @moonman was the one that found it. I changed the path for media to be under media/whatever such as media/js in this case, however, there's an actions file that doesn't use the proper htmloutputter interface for that and instead hardcodes it, so it screws that up -

@archaeme oh, I was going to pull it out of SPC's mattermost but its dead. ugh -
maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Saturday, 17-Dec-2016 05:33:00 EST maiyannah
@archaeme Oh, there's a place in actions that doesn't use the proper htmloutputter thing to set scripts, its hardcoded, moon ran into the same thing earlier
one sec -

@verius @andstatus I'm not really sure how to explain this in a more simple fashion than "we're using it make provide a unique identifier" -
maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Saturday, 17-Dec-2016 05:26:44 EST maiyannah
@andstatus @verius @thefaico Yeah, I'd probably header it with some sort of thing saying "Im a duplication challenge" and the notice object. The uid would be in the notice object and could be used for further follow up checks in the client if desired. -
maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Saturday, 17-Dec-2016 05:24:48 EST maiyannah
@verius @andstatus We're hashing to provide a unique identifier, not data integrity
(For proving integrity, I think signing with a checksum is probably better since an origin server can be considered authoratative for its own notices.) -
maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Saturday, 17-Dec-2016 05:22:44 EST maiyannah
@verius @andstatus (If they don't have the account registered, the client should probably discard the duplication challenge and respond saying, 'no we want to send this') -
maiyannah (maiyannah)'s status on Saturday, 17-Dec-2016 05:21:04 EST maiyannah
@verius @andstatus If we have a universal ID, and the client app is aware of it, it can look up the duplication challenge, and see it was posted by an account that is registered with the client, and go "oh yeah, this was something we tried to send earlier, looks like it did send"
