@daw I think it's acceptable to travel by train. Lots of people take the transsiberian railway to discover Russia and China for example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Siberian_Railway
The absolute majority of in-country travels in the two largest countries in the world (China, India) are by railway, so I guess we westerners can use such transportation methods as well .) -
