@crecca Blocked users can still subscribe to you, read your posts etc. If they can't, you've broken the laws of physics and should get the Schrödinger prize of Federated/Unfederated boxcats.
But maybe you mean that they, only on the same instance as you, can't list your profile in their "subscriptions" list. -

@dredmorbius I'm not sure if we're discussing the same thing here. People who publish stuff publicly will always be targeted, they have a certain set of precautions to take. They're not what I'm talking about. The news article you linked was related to (identifiable) _subscribers_ to this information. They _would_ be safe simply by using Tor and anonymous RSS/Atom fee… -

@HerraBRE !GNUsocial calls it "mute" for the per-profile blocking, which makes the muted profile disappear from your feeds (while logged in of course). Or at least should, I think it's still buggy because it's not been such a big problem for me at least thanks to active moderators.
Then we have "silence" which is a moderator-level ban from the site in general. New posts are not received. -

@dredmorbius But as I read your post again I see that your criticism was rather against the "privacy" through obscurity on a web service. Check. -

@dredmorbius Well, with !OStatus you can subscribe (using the Atom feed in an ordinary feed reader) to people through Tor without having to identify yourself as a supporter. Or you can create pseudonymic accounts through Tor (even if the target profile doesn't support it, because you only ever interact with the instance you trust). As long as you don't give away your … -

#Megalodon killer feature: Does not compete with birdsites. In fact, it does not care about birds at all since it lives underwater. -

@maloki Sorry, don't take my long post as some kind of rant against you (that's how I interpret the "dude").
I just explain my perspective of it after a couple of years in this environment ;) And I can't do it on the #GitHub issues because, y'know, I don't like being a customer with proprietary services etc. -

@maloki In the current state of code, !GNUsocial at least wouldn't accept the update (no duplicates) because the post would still, if I read the Atom spec correctly, have the same URI. -

@maloki No it wouldn't cause a lot of Federation issues necessarily. It could perhaps cause duplicates, but since #Atom has the "atom:updated" element then - just as with any feed reader - !OStatus implementations can see that it is updated. However, it should only be possible to update atom:content and not mentions. Categories etc. is debatable. Why we haven't implem… -

@HerraBRE though I see now that you complained about #Mastodon not respecting the Accept: header... Yeah, that's obviously a bad bug and should be reported as such.
Unfortunately I can't create or discuss Mastodon issues as I'm not a customer with #GitHub... -

@dvs Maybe it should explain that #Mastodon is part of a network using the !OStatus protocol...
One reason is that it's easier to explain "instances". Maybe someone starts an instance of #Mastodon financed _with_ advertisement, then your FAQ answer here will be incorrect: http://mastoguide.info/Pages/funding.html -

@HerraBRE #Mastodon works with !GNUsocial as it is pretty well. There were some issues that @gargron raised with me, some of which I believe I fixed and some that I couldn't really figure out (some profile avatar update thing for example?) Regarding RFC7033 (#WebFinger) it - since standardisation - only _requires_ a JRD (application/jrd+json). application/xrd+xml is j… -
