"Break the Internet" is a tongue-in-cheek way to point out bad practices that will result in errors. When a short URL service disappears, non-technical users will get errors that they're likely to describe as "the Internet is broken". -

Encrypted URL shorteners seem even worse than plaintext ones, which already break the Internet with link rot. What threat model does an encrypted short URL protect you from? See Joshua Schachter's essay "On URL Shorteners" http://joshua.schachter.org/2009/04/on-url-shorteners.html -

I have a touring bike--tires for asphalt or groomed track, and a gear range for hill-climbing to 30 km/h straightaways. Perfect for commuting! -

I read StatusNet dents on Pidgin with microblog-purple, and all dents are permanently logged locally - dents don't get deleted here! -

OK, I see !vlf as a link to !vivalafederation and everything. What does a responsive admin need to do to enable aliases? -

For new SN instances with group problems, applying @rozzin's patch at http://status.net/open-source/issues/3540#comment-43423 may help (via http://sn.jonkman.ca/conversation/1401#notice-1989 ) And group aliases don't federate, you can only use the actual group name. -

@tuttle@somsants.net Here's a message from @erkanyilmaz@oracle.skilledtests.com: @tuttle Did the #admin of your SN server change something ? Try also to unsub and #resub to one of those problematic groups, if that fixes it ? -

But MySQL was still receiving incoming messages, it was the Web interface that wasn't displaying them. Also, many other processes relying on the same MySQL (four or five WordPress instances, sn.jonkman.ca) were unaffected. Don't know what it was, but I want it to stop. Erm, that is, I want MySQLd to keep going. -

"The goal of #federation, as I see it, is for services such as this one (and #friendica, #buddycloud, #identica / #statusnet, #onesocialweb, #rstatus, #jappix, #libertree) to eventually be fully #interfederated, so that by having one account on one server/tree/pod/site, a person can fully communicate with people who are using an account on any of the others." cc @question -

@bobjonkman @lnxwalt it appears so. they want to kill RSS and confine everyone inside their walled garden. Drive for profits will ruin the spirit of the Internet :-/
