The income gap between people in low income and people with higher incomes in Waterloo Region is widening. I've read elsewhere that there's an eight-fold difference -- the lowest 10% earn less than $20,000, the top 10% earn more than $160,000, and that's individual incomes, not family incomes. -

In Waterloo Region the Low Income Cut Off (LICO, eg. the poverty line) was $20,064 CAD in 2011. About 48,000 people in Waterloo region (10%) earned less than LICO; about 16,000 of those were employed full-time. http://communityservices.regionofwaterloo.ca/en/communityPlanningPartnerships/resources/MythBustersAugust262013.pdf (4 MByte PDF) -

@noiob In Canada, according to @bobjonkman, it's *already* prohibited by law. Canada: the country of the future. Not in the right way. -

The "Good news" was in reference to your hubby's return, the remainder was me griping about my inadequate setup. #Federation is great, but it does require instance admins to keep their software up-to-date (mine is still at StatusNet 1.1.0+security). So it's entirely my own fault that I needed to hunt all over your site for the conversation thread. -

It's unfortunate that HN doesn't federate, as I can't join the discussion without becoming a customer and giving away data to some random capitalist "incubator" with nothing but an interest to make money off from me rather than give me a platform to discuss news on. Then maybe I could've replied to some illiterate crap there. -

!Devuan Jessie stable release candidate (1.0.0-RC) announced: This Devuan Jessie release candidate is as close as we can get to a "long term support" universal base distribution free from systemd, in the original spirit of Debian. The final Devuan Jessie release will follow shortly and then we will turn our attention to "Ascii", the current testing branch. https://lists.dyne.org/lurker/message/20170421.170025.79b43629.en.html -

The HN discussion perpetuates the usual misunderstanding of a #Federated network. People claim they must have accounts on multiple instances in order to follow conversations there. But a person really needs only one account on one instance because they can follow accounts on other instances *because Federation*! https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14157801 -
