Javascript is used to display content in some web sites, and those sites don't work without it. I describe those sites by the unflattering (and deliberately provocative) name of #Javascrippled. There is no good reason for making a site dependent on Javascript, that's why the <noscript> element exists. I think it's either ignorance or laziness of web developers, or the Javascript i… -

Malware is software that does harmful things. Could be deliberate (viruses, "rm -rf /*"), could be accidental (XSS, #GotoFail). Browsing without Javascript protects me from both. -

In computer !security "Trust" means "give permission to harm me". So, to rephrase, why should I give your Javascript permission to harm me? The !FS license has nothing to do with it. -

All in all, I think there is more malware targeting the browser than targeting GNU/Linux systems. So you'll get better !security using a real operating system. #SpeculationWithoutEvidence -

Things I teach people: 1) Use a password manager. 2) If you don't use a password manager, choose a long, memorable phrase. The longer, the better. 2a) Make it easily typeable. I know people who have strong, long passwords, but can't remember how to type them. As Schneier points out, PW cracking tools try variations on 1337$p34|< anyway, so funny symbols don't add much protection. 2… -
