@andresinmp They compare with a specific !xmpp client by Cisco, not the protocol itself. So all points are invalid for any other software until proven otherwise.
Especially that firewall thing, that's just bogus - there are several standardised methods for NAT/firewall traversal for XMPP.

@zash @sazius #Conversations image upload (which is not Jingle) requires the "HTTP Upload" Component support - which I assume Slack's crap !XMPP gateway won't support. And if it does, it probably costs extra.

I love assuming that everyone has !XMPP. And when they say "what is XMPP?" I can do the same weird face everyone gives me when I ask "what is Facebook?" because they assume I am a customer there.

Leads to an interesting thought, though. Can we haz secure communications if two people are using !GNUsocial through !XMPP with #OTR enabled?

@nosolosw And gmail.com #xmpp doesn't support offline messages. Google really provides crappy services.

I use the #Pidgin plug-in #Twitgin which shows my timeline in a tabbed window, and lets me send messages. But !GNUsocial does !XMPP too, so any Jabber client can connect to a GNUsocial instance that has XMPP turned on. Also, see http://www.skilledtests.com/wiki/Statusnet_clients

@seregaed afaik you can use an #xmpp client (aka jabber client) to post, read & reply from/to !gnusocial. (quitter is a gnusocial instance)

@motkarl @nidron Mm, det finns ju ingen vettig anledning att ha "privat" notisström när det ändå är webben man kommunicerar på. Allt som skrivs på webben bör antas att det lagras förevigt och är läsbart för alla. Privat och sluten kommunikation sker bäst över typ !xmpp
