@aroque The main purpose of !gnusocial is meant to be a public, social media. There may be API calls that have been looked over when restricting private site behaviour.
Private sites should _not_ work with !ostatus
So the point is if you can get private data from a private site, it should be considered a bug. And since we haven't had the resources for an audit we can't guarantee anything .)

@aqeel Try upgrading to latest master, some !OStatus related stuff have been polished and/or fixed.

Heh. Yeah, !ostatus is not what #Diaspora people want. I understand that. As it works now, it is not very privacy oriented, as nothing is secret. That is, however, an incredibly strong point when it comes to being censorship resistant (as well as the fact that it obviously works...).

Except that it's on the web. HTTP sucks pretty hard. (no requirement on HTTPS in !ostatus :P)

^- @fanta I would recommend explicitly installing php5-gmp because that increases the signature verification in !ostatus _a lot_.
Also, php5-curl and php5-gd can cause curious problems if not installed ;)

I think the best !gnusocial patch I made last year was the one stitching together notices with their respective incomplete conversations.
The best ones all-in-all were probably from @rozzin fixing my !ostatus fuckups ;)

Who wants to help setup letsfederate.net ? I was thinking a simple blog with RSS + a login-to-edit wiki to document what hasn't already been documented (and maybe simplify/examplify !OStatus and #Diaspora behaviour).

yes, it's a known bug (also in SN). if users A and B are talking, but B is not followed by someone on your instance C you don't see B's posts. there are some exceptions like: when B writes to someone on C directly (then !ostatus does it correct), ...
