I'm still struggling with PCManFM. I really miss Caja file manager from the !Mate desktop — but I think it's going to take some fiddling with APT pinning to get the !Mate desktop installed. -

Spent much of the night mollycoddling a !gNewSense install, only to find that my hardware (HP ProBook) is not fully supported. I suppose I could eventually get the WiFi to connect and the screen to use all the pixels, but why bother messing around with modprobe and its ilk when the problem is likely solved in another distro? I've been recommending !Linux !Mint !Debian Edition (LMDE) with the !Mate desktop to friends, family and clients because it gives the closest look'n'feel to !Windows XP -

I'm installing !Linux !Mint with !Mate desktop for those who'll have it. I'm told #Elementary OS makes a nice !Windows substitute, but I've never used it. -

The slowest part of a new !Ubuntu installation is the Unity interface. Try !Mate for a full-function desktop. Or just go straight to Linux !Mint !Mate edition (uses the!Ubuntu repositories so updates are in sync with !Ubuntu) -
