@mmn @mattl Times are a little tough, or I'd send some $ to help rent a #VPS where you could !selfhost your own #git. That's the best #code-hosting solution, IMO
-
Is the new #git host of !gnusocial https://gnu.githost.io/gnu-social/social or https://savannah.gnu.org/projects/social/ ?
-
@knuthollund Not happy to see #githost shutting down. Not enough choices as it is. (besides !selfhost) :-( @mattl @mmn see parent post. #git #code-hosting #gitlab
-
!gnusocial and !qvitter updated to the latest #git thanks a lot @mmn and @hannes2peer ! :) Diff http://s.vinilox.eu/drg

http://url.federati.net/V8HVT They formerly were !selfhost ed, but are now #beehive hosted. #git #gitlab #code-hosting #lisp
-
I haven't tried it yet, but http://url.federati.net/sbJUF makes #gogs sound like the best way to !selfhost #git repos. @windigo @mmn @bavatar

Seen via @xrevan86 (in #IRC and #XMPP rooms) Google Code is shutting down http://url.federati.net/vxt07 #code-hosting #git

@mmn & @mattl, please do a "git repack -a -d -f --window=250 --depth=250 --window-memory=100m" or similar before pushing the #git repo to its new home. It'll significantly cut the time/bandwidth required for new clones.

I think we had problems getting access at first. And it hasn't always had support for #git. And we were already using Gitorious anyway.

Ahah: "git checkout --orphan && rm -rf *" #git
-
How does one start a new, empty branch in an existing #git repository?
-
#git practically advocates abbreviating SHA-1 !crypto hashes to 7 hexits; #redmine habitually abbreviates them to 8; somehow this never collides with the notion that "the unlikelihood of hash-collisions is astronomical because it's SHA-1".
-
Yes, a badly-packed public #git repo negatively impacts cloning: http://status.hackerposse.com/url/4565
-
Yow, the #gpsd #git repo is currently 100 MB when it should be only ~13 MB: http://status.hackerposse.com/url/4558

I'm also #amazed at how many people basically say `the only #VC system I know is #git and can't learn any others enough to submit a patch, not even diff and patch!'. Like, really? Did these people only get exposed to software #dev < ~3 years ago?
-
My #StatusNet #git repo is 264 MB without ever having been touched by #bzr. "git gc" gets it down to 252 MB; "git gc --aggressive" gets it down to 77 MB. #Good-thing I have 16 GB RAM in this laptop....
-
I'm consistently #amazed at the sorts of "#all-you-have-to-do-is..." things that #git advocates say with straight faces.

And the #git people think the #bzr people are #crazy? http://status.hackerposse.com/url/4543
