@musicman You might want to check to see whether the tz files are symlinks to "utc-5" and such. If they are, "Americas/Chicago" should be treated the same as CDT until we go back to standard time. -

@musicman @guizzy I don't think "masks don't work; don't wear them unless you're sick" can be called nuance. It seems they were trying to prevent regular people from buying up real medical masks before hospitals could get them. -

the mask thing I think is about nuance. ordinary masks are not useful in an aerosolized environment, so it's important that certain types of physicians (anesthesiologists, for example), have "real masks"

mariadb tries to pull the info from CentOS. I think this is a timezonectl issue, but not sure.
If mariadb pulled 'America/Chicago' instead of CDT, then it would work fine. -

@musicman Not an answer, because I don't know, but look into #Java and time zones. I'd guess it probably has its own implementation of the Olsen #timezone database. -

I stumped (for now) our #Wildfly expert on this one:
"java.sql.SQLException: The server time zone value 'CDT' is unrecognized or represents more than one time zone. You must configure either the server or JDBC driver (via the serverTimezone configuration property) to use a more specifc time zone value if you want to utilize time zone support." -

For example, I remember reading around March that there were no known deaths of patients 10 and younger. More recently, there is a peculiar set of symptoms that only affect younger patients (not extremely common, even then). -

I think when we look back in a few years, we'll see a lot of unjustified certainty in most of what has been communicated. From use of masks to most-affected groups, to likelihood of dying, the understanding changes constantly.
