With OpenSource (Free Software) it can be seen whether or not a piece of software contains a vulnerability. With proprietary software that has no source code available not only are vulnerabilities hidden from sight, but trying to discover a vulnerability could be considered illegal (DRM legislation), and providing and distributing a patch is impossible.

@thomask Agreed, "can be seen" is not the same as "will be seen". But I tend to believe it's more often true that "Proprietary == Won't be seen"
