I don't think Apple has a master key. The FBI is asking Apple to create an iOS that doesn't have any of the "10 bad passkey attempts bricks the phone" protections so that they can then brute-force guess the passkey.

@mikael @Bobjonkman2 afaik their encryption key is stored in hardware in a hard to read eeprom. So you need expensive equipment as it can't be done by copying flash and bruteforcing.

@mikael As Apple still has root and backdoors as long as it's running and they sync shit to iCloud. So they already have all data. .)

@mikael Yeah, no matter what intricate system they have as long as it's a black box it doesn't matter and we should assume the key is something like PBKDF2(phoneuid+"Steve Jobs killed himself because he was a homeopathic moron")
