@mv yes, it's coming along nicely
-
@mv You can get gratis subdomains on freedns, and other dynamic DNS services are available
-
@mv a nice feature of #Freedombox is its Tor hidden service. This means that your content is available globally to anyone with a Tor browser
-
@mv yes I currently do use freedns
-
@mcscx freedns.afraid.org
-
@mv behind a router. Ports need to be forwarded from the router to the box. Typically 80,443,5222
-
@mv it does also appear possible that you can access ikiwiki/owncloud purely from the Tor hidden service, without any dynamic DNS
-
@mv that might be a bug. Are you using version 0.7 ?
-
@mv if you have a blog it would be nice to know any pain points in the install process. Maybe the documentation or Plinth can be improved.
-
@bashrc @mv the more feedback of this sort is available the more likely #Freedombox can be turned into something for the masses.
-
@bashrc @mv needing to forward ports is a bit of a hurdle, but I expect many gamers out there already know how to do that
-
@bashrc @mv I think there was a bug in #Freedombox 0.6 where it didn't appear to save dynamic DNS settings. Not sure if it got fixed.
-
@bashrc @mv one warning. a user called fbx gets created with a default password. I don't know if that has been removed yet in 0.7
-
@bashrc @mv if its still there then log in with "ssh fbx@freedombox.local" and then use "passwd" to change the password from the default
-
@bashrc @mv otherwise the box could trivially be hacked. IMHO this is a really bad thing in the current system, but it's planned to be fixed
-
@bashrc @mv in my own #Freedombone project passwords are always randomly generated after an entropy check. Default passwords are a bad idea.
-
@mv ok, maybe it has been fixed in 0.7
-
@mv there isn't any gnusocial in #Freedombox. Currently it's not packaged for debian
-
@mv I think someone is packaging gnusocial, but who knows how long that might take.
