Sadly, @RonAmadeo confuses the "Free" in !FreeSoftware with lack of monetization: "Why is the FOSS app selection on Android so poor compared to desktop platforms? Our educated guess is money. Apple and Google have made software monetization so easy that it's tempting to take the copyright route and make some cash."

Fortunately, @RonAmadeo comes to a conclusion that meshes with my own views: "But if you're willing to deal with a few headaches and slog through the sparse app selection, you'll have a better handle on your privacy and be able to brag that you have a (mostly) open source phone."
