It has been requested to move the !feds group. I’m fine with putting it on my instance, just curious if anyone else is interested. !sn
-
Also, this new group will need a new name so that federation will not get confused. Suggestions welcome as well. #newfedsgroup
-
I suggest !vivalafederation. =D
-
@postblue !vivalafederation works for me as well. I need to add a shorter alias to that group though. ;)

#hunh???
-
@rozzin The db under parlementum.net died and there is work being done to pull out the users data so they can rebuild. ;)
-
@jpope, I'm pretty sure you can just call it "feds"—the only ambiguity is when people who are subscribed to *both* try to bang-address one.
-
@jpope, posts as they go out to the network identify groups by URL, not by name.
-
@rozzin Not so sure about that. I tried moving my !stlblues group from identica to my instance and it was full of fail.
-
@rozzin Seems that my db just wouldn’t let me create a group of the same name and post too it. Also, my memory could be failing me…
-
@jpope, I don't think remote sites will see your groups' aliases—for us to !-ref using a short name, it must be the group's primary name.
-
@jpope, I'm just going by what the code says ;)
-
@rozzin He’s got a trick that inserts group aliases into the db on his blog.
-
@rozzin ... or if someone on that instance has been subbed in the past. It’ll still be in the db. Best to always use another name. cc @jpope
-
@jpope, like I said—you can't be subscribed to 2 groups w/ the same name if you want to be able to !-post unambiguously ☺
-
@lnxwalt, I'm still pretty sure (both per the code, and per #try-it-and-see) that's not how group-names get dereferenced, but OK.
-
Hm, there should be no problem in having several groups with the same name as long as they're on different servers. As long as a single user isn't member of both similarly named groups, bangtagging should work fine as well. ...should...
