   Can't composer have the "vendor" directory in ../vendor or something? If that's an issue. I really don't see why index.php in the web root is an issue. I think you'll have to explain more thoroughly.

     @dansup Can't you just set permissions that prevent remote users to access the vendor directory? A simple .htaccess solves that issue afaik.
