On a Windows machine I just downloaded "Etcher", as recommended by Raspberry Pi for writing to an SD card. The compressed file was 55MiB, uncompressed about 150. Wtf?! How large is 'dd', some tens of _kilobytes_? And a bash script with some 'zenity' commands on top of that excluding window-manager-related binaries is at most 50KiB. Jeez.
