   The push for two-factor authentication has nothing to do with security and everything to do with wanting to be able to pierce online anonymity.

     The more data that must be exposed for authentication, the easier it is to essentially "triangulate" whom is seeking authentication.

     And as I've said and will keep saying, increased client security, by whatever means, isn't going to fix the completely lacking server security that leads to these huge data breaches to begin.
