When even the paid out media shill critics are saying Rogue One isn't great, it's a sign its probably pretty lacklustre.
-
"Doesn't break the mold in terms of franchise formula, and it's an enjoyable installment in the "Star Wars" canon. However, it's not much more than that. "If you're not a fan, Rogue One may not be the revelation that The Force Awakens turned out to be. "It offers more details of interoffice politics among the squabbling factions of both the Empire and the Rebel All…

That's the height of the critic opinion, even the ones on outlets basically owned by Disney.
It only goes downhill from there.

@purplehippo That was one of the Disney-owned outlets' reviewers so I imagine they had to choose their words extremely carefully.

@nerthos The Force Awakens was entirely insubstantial. The original sequels, and even the prequel trilogy, had a sense of a deeper world at play. TFA doesn't, at all. Everything exists in service to the character drama of the woman so memorable I don't remember her name. Sounds from critic reviews Rogue One is much the same.

@nerthos Don't expect good character action out of any of these movies, because all they are is pandering.
-
@nerthos Honestly even the ones done by actors who had no training at all in the original series were better than TFA's melee fight scenes. It was extremely poorly choreographed, and the lightsabers suddenly got a lot less lethal to make up for that fact to try to give it a sense of danger, which actually ended up robbing it of said.

@nerthos Yeah, Obi-Wan in the original first movie just casually lops some shithead gangbanger's arm off. Rey gets a more direct hit and basically just burns and a mild, non-disfiguring wound.
