@degeneracy That's not how many old ones worked actually. They usually used a bimetallic strip which would change in conductivity because of the differing characteristics of the two metals, or a bellows assembly. Here is a teardown of a frighteningly common Honeywell unit that was in every second house I was in, during my apprenticeship, by Clive Mitchell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXIHfHUQiGs

@kevie @katiekats The PC port in general was, on Windows, let alone the port to Linux from Windows.
-
@kevie @katiekats The port was being done at the same time the publisher was busy dying, so I imagine money was basically nonexistent at that point.

@nurgledsatorin @purplehippo You must LOVE indie developers.
-
@nurgledsatorin @purplehippo A lot of people just aren't nice people. And honestly, I usually don't give a fuck unless they're antagonizing me (or people I like) or trying to rip me off (or rip off people I like)
-
@nurgledsatorin @purplehippo What most gamers seem to be bothered by is not so much even having games on certain themes, or tokenism, or any of these things, its how certain people just cannot stop shoving their pet causes in your face. Even if you agree with someone, that shit just gets obnoxious after a while.
-
@nurgledsatorin A lot of new teams that get their hands on a franchise think they know better than the old devs. They usually don't.
See: Thief 4 (shit), Deus Ex Human Revolution (meh, definitely no Deus Ex), Hitman Absolution (hilariously bad as a hitman game), etc etc etc
-
@degeneracy @purplehippo @nurgledsatorin I've not really played enough of it to say I think my opinion of it is fair, so lets leave it at: "I'm not going to be playing more of it unless people really want a review of it"
-
@degeneracy Hey, at the (semi-joke/semi-serious) 100$ sub level, you can have me review one game of your choice! I mean, if you really hate me THAT much.
-
@degeneracy Even the small subs help me make ends meet, but only bother with it if you can afford it.
-
@degeneracy Well, given your trade especially, shit. Lots and lots of shit.
-
@degeneracy This is why my policy has always been to encourage people to subscribe if they like the reviews _what I've already written_ rather than on some promise they might get better or whatever, because in the latter is where like 95% of crowdfunding drama lurks.
-
@degeneracy It's not entirely selfless - it also avoids the social control aspect many of the socjus/progressive lot try to exert via crowdfunding.
-
@degeneracy If your principles change based simply on what people pay you to say, then what you had wasn't principles.
-
@degeneracy It's funny how most of the training I formally received about electrical work was basically about industrial circuit installation and maintenance and I have never in my life had to touch anything like that outside of that.
-
@degeneracy They generally try to get basic competency in all the trades and then go onto specialized stuff in your chosen trade.
Thermostats of today are probably actually more complicated than the old stuff which basically just were "stick line in this end, return in this end, done" since they're fairly electronic now and many rely on sensors that you have to install.
-
@degeneracy The mercury based ones are actually pretty modern compared to the old stuff you'll see in many houses.
