@moonman This is why I don't like Patreon personally. Not for Patreon itself as a service or provider but rather because people on Patreon are financially incentivized to basically produce a stream of middling or low-quality content, rather than focus their time on better, more high-quality work. It's why I'm glad most of my subscriptions are just plain paypal an…
-
@moonman Agreed, but I was speaking generally.
-
@moonman Eh, I'm not so sure about that. It's easy to set up a monthly access level on a blog based on PP donations, I'd know, I do it.
And the best you can do as a YT producer is share unlisted content privately and hope that no one shares the link.
-
@moonman This is why I prefer one offs for "hey I like what you're doing" rather than in the context of funding something in the future.
-
@moonman @purplehippo Idiots on both sides, that one. The producer was idiotic to have that kind of a contract. The artist was at best incredibly selfish to run off like that.
-
@moonman Paypal is pretty shit, really, but they make so much money they don't have any impetus to improve and are so ubiquitous that we're kind of stuck with them. There's not many other comparable online $$$ to real money to online $$$ things out there like it, and literally zero of them operate in Canada right now. The closest out there that works for Canada is…

@moonman BTW I meant to work on the render code this weekend but my time got eaten up by that wierd UTF 8 bullshit sorry about that.
-
@purplehippo @moonman Kind of like Devi Ever, but for furry porn.
-
@moonman @purplehippo Me too. I just mean to say that the producer certainly isn't blameless either.
-
@moonman I'll probably work on it tomorrow once I have this review done and put to print (which I'm doing tonight). Things seem stable again so I'm working on that.
I probably just jinxed it with this post though.
-
@moonman @purplehippo Oh the artist probably took it and ran. I read up on them when I first heard about this for a possible news piece on HA and they seem to have a history of basically running at the first sign of trouble - but more importantly, insisting on contract agreements that let them do this.
-
@purplehippo @moonman What impetus is there to deliver a finished product when people have communicated to you that they will continue to fund an incomplete one on an indefinite basis?
-
@purplehippo @moonman Hello DoubleFine
-
@purplehippo @moonman I guess they did at least pretend to finish the product by "releasing" it half finished tho
-
@purplehippo @moonman To say the least, yeah, but they keep getting money - so why would they change?
-
@purplehippo @moonman They're riding on LucasArts' coat tails for the most part. Psychonauts was their only own game that met any sort of critical appeal and even that was a flop with cult appeal at best - commercially, it was a failure so bad it bankrupted their publisher.
-
@purplehippo It was more style over substance, but the style was appealing enough.
These days all DoubleFine has IS style, they can't manage substance to save their lives.
-
@purplehippo Pretty much exactly why, yup
